Prominent businessman and former Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu, has expressed his sorrow over the loss of Ghanaian Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb during a visit to the residence of the late Daddy Lumba on July 29, 2025, to sign the book of condolence and extend heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family, Bonsu described his relationship with Daddy Lumba as exceptionally close and personal.

"We had a very special relationship; very close. Anytime he produced a new record, he would send it to me and ask, ‘Daddy Kojo (he calls me that), what do you think?’ That was the kind of special relationship we had," Bonsu shared.

Kojo Bonsu, who has been appointed as Ghana's Ambassador to China, recounted his shock upon hearing the news of the musician’s death, sharing how he opted to call Daddy Lumba directly upon hearing the rumours on that fateful day of July 26.

"I kept quiet and just called his number, but nobody picked up. About an hour later. I got a phone call from his wife, telling me that what I heard is true. I was so sad; I broke down because I really liked the man," he shared.

Reflecting on Daddy Lumba’s legacy, Bonsu said he was among his favourite Highlife artistes, praising him as a prolific hitmaker.

“He was good; his music was a killer. He was a really good musician; I think he has more hit songs than anybody in Ghana,” he emphasised.

He further expressed his sympathies, stating, “My condolences to the wife, the children, and the family.”
