Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has expressed sadness following remarks by party stalwart Dr Tony Aidoo, who disclosed that he does not wish to live to witness the party's future after President John Dramani Mahama's tenure.
In a reflective social media post, Anyidoho wrote, "Hmmmmmmmmm! He doesn't want to live to see the next phase of the NDC? He wants to depart before that happens? Obviously …! Very sad and touching. One of the pillars of the NDC. Hmmmmmmmm! I am weeping silently in my heart because I can feel what he feels. Hmmmmmmmmmm!"
Dr Tony Aidoo, a veteran politician and respected voice within the NDC, bared his heart in an interview on Radio Gold on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
'I don't want to be alive to see who succeeds John Mahama' – Tony Aidoo
When asked about the future leadership of the NDC after Mahama's constitutionally mandated exit in 2028, the 76-year-old former Senior Presidential Aide and Head of the Policy Evaluation and Oversight Unit said, "I don't want to be here. Maybe by the time it comes to that point, I'll be gone."
Pressed further, he added, "No... I don't want to... I'm old, though. I try, but I'm old. God has been good to me, but I wouldn't mind if he takes me today."
Dr Aidoo stressed that the future of the NDC hinges significantly on the performance of the Mahama administration.
"Whoever is planning to take over from Mahama, a great deal depends upon the outcome of the Mahama administration. If it does well, it inures to the party, and therefore it creates a wind on which the potential or prospective person can ride," he explained.
