Kumasi, July 28, GNA - Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says he is confident of overwhelming endorsement by the national delegates on August 7, to lead the party to battle for political power in 2012.
He said the massive support and encouragement he continues to receive from the party members had been amazing.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on the last leg of his campaign tour of Ashanti Region, ahead of the congress that from all parts of the country the people have been receptive of his message.
Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, Mr Isaac Osei and Reverend Kwame Koduah are his other contestants.
His campaign has been without fanfare but the reality on the ground is that "I am winning the hearts and minds of the delegates."
Professor Frimpong-Boateng, an eminent heart surgeon and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, said since he is seen as non-aligned to any faction - perceived or real in the NPP, he would carry the party with him to restore hope to the country.
"We need to hold together and work with total commitment to win back political power."
He said many people outside his party also see him as "shining example" and would not have any difficulty voting for him as President.
Additionally his election would inspire more qualified Ghanaians abroad to return home and provide the critical mass of expertise to put pace into the nation's socio-economic progress.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng's campaign message has been on party unity, discipline and aggressive push towards industrialization anchored by science and technology.
He has vowed to back his words with action.
