Minister-designate of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has confidently confirmed his membership in the Freemasons.
This revelation came during the vetting of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22.
The trained lawyer and politician made this disclosure when he was directly questioned by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, himself a Freemason, about his affiliation with the secret society.
The exchange unfolded as follows:
Afenyo-Markin: Are you a Freemason?
Youth Minister-nominee: Yes, I’m a Mason.
Afenyo-Markin: Who is your mother?
Youth Minister-nominee: Amity.
Afenyo-Markin: In all difficulties and dangers, in whom do you place your trust?
Youth Minister-nominee: The Grand Architect of the Universe.
Emphasizing George Opare Addo's suitability for the position, Afenyo-Markin sought further clarification on how the nominee intended to inspire confidence among Ghanaian youth in the newly established Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment.
The nominee underscored his commitment to inclusivity and effective leadership.
“I began by stating that the day His Excellency nominated me, I issued a statement urging every Ghanaian youth to believe in the type of leadership I bring on board. I will not be discriminatory. I am here to serve the Ghanaian youth and no one else,” Mr. Opare Addo affirmed.
