I Never Commended Any Malaysian Firm - JAK

President John Agyekum Kufuor has denied commending the Malaysian Management of the Tema Shipyard and Dry-docks or any of the Malaysian companies operating in Ghana for good performance.

He said "I have been taken aback by some aspects of the publication in the Wednesday, July 31 issue of the Daily Graphic that I have interacted with officials of some Malaysians Companies operating in Ghana in Kuala Lumpur and commended them for good performance adding that, the publication looks like a piece of mischief".

President Kufuor was reacting to the publication in Langkawi, Malaysia where he is attending the on-going three-day Sixth International Dialogue Meeting. He said; "during the meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad, I told him that whereas I am impressed by the development of Malaysia as a nation, I am not happy with the performance of most of the Malaysian companies operating in Ghana".

He said, "He knew of the situation with the Ghana Telecom and the Tema Shipyard and Drydocks and said if they were not performing, we should send them out of the country". "It is a fact that the Tema Shipyard and Drydocks had not been performing well under the contract it signed. I have not even met any of the officials since my arrival in Kuala Lumpur yet".

President Kufuor said there could be a lot that Ghana would want to work out with Malaysia but relations had not been good with the pioneer companies.
