I Have Not Suffered Stroke - Odoi Sykes

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Samuel Odoi Sykes has denied suffering a stroke. The Ambassador told JOY FM that the rumour initiated by the Ghana Palaver newspaper is a malicious fabrication with political undertones and must be disregarded with contempt.
According to Tuesday’s edition of the Ghana Palaver, Mr Sykes who is the immediate past National Chairman of the ruling NPP suffered a partial stroke and had been quietly flown back to Ghana. But speaking to JOY FM from his Ottawa residence, the High Commissioner insisted that he had not been stricken and immobilized by any disease.
''I’ve not suffered a stroke, I don’t understand. I mean this rumour was going around some months back. My daughter called me, my nephew called me to find out what was happening. I came to Ghana in November. I spent one month and left in December, it’s been five months now and nothing has happened to me'', he added.
Mr Sykes explained however that he’s getting medical attention and check-ups for a prostate cancer condition induced by old age. He also denied having been flown quietly into Ghana as a result of the alleged stroke and attributed the rumours to mischievous political opponents bent on embarrassing the government.

ODOI-SYKES Suffers Stroke ? - Rejoinder

We have read with some concern and dismay the story posted by The Ghana Palaver on the Ghana Home Page to the effect that the Ghana High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Samuel Arthur Odoi Sykes has suffered a stroke and has been flown to Ghana for treatment. The story further said that officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NPP have confirmed that the High Commissioner was indeed in Ghana.

We wish to be placed on record that this story is entirely without foundation. As the main News Organization serving the Ghanaian Community in Canada, we quickly called the Ghana High Commission this morning, Tuesday May 13, 2003. We spoke to the High Commissioner himself who expressed surprise at the news. We chatted with His Excellency and he wants it on record that he has suffered no stroke, minor or major, and that he is at his post in Ottawa, Canada’s capital carrying out his official duties in Canada. He even confirmed his attendance as the Key-Note Speaker of a Breakfast Meeting of the Canada Africa Business Council scheduled for Toronto on Thursday May 15, 2003.

The Ghanaian News Editorial team therefore wish to inform our readers, the Ghanaian community in Canada and Ghanaians generally in Ghana and around the world that Ghana’s High Commissioner in Canada, His Excellency Samuel Arthur Odoi Sykes has Suffered no Stroke and is at post in Canada.
