+I Caught Journalist ... Red Handed+ Accused Tells Court

Akim Swedru (C/R), June 24, - A large crowd at a circuit court at Akim Swedru was astonished when an accused person standing trial on an assault charge narrated how he caught his wife and a journalist having sexual affair in a hotel at Akim Oda. Frempong Nyamesa, a businessman, was jointly charged with Kwame Osei, Rose Appiah, Gladys Nyamesa, and Odame Nyamesa for assaulting Mrs Doris Nyamesa alias Doris Turkson and Kweku Adofo-Addae, a reporter of the 'P and P' (People and Places), a bi-weekly. Frempong pleaded guilty ''with explanation'' but the presiding judge, Mr Michael K. Woanya, after hearing his explanation entered a plea of not guilty and adjourned the case to July 10, saying there is "more in this case". Doris and Adofo-Addae were not present in court and Mr Woanya warned that he would advise himself if they failed to turn up at the adjourned date. Frempong, in his explanation, said Doris who is his wedded wife decided to leave the matrimonial home and, on January 14, this year, he caught her and a lover having sex. He said Doris later sued him at a high court at Akim Oda for 50 million cedis on grounds that he seized her belongings. Frempong alleged that on March 26 this year, Adofo-Addae approached him to give him details of the court suit to which he declined to avoid contempt of court. He said Adofo-Addae left him but later, he was hinted that Adofo-Addae was lodging with Doris at a hotel. Frempong showed to the court a picture he was able to snap of Doris and Adofo-Addae having sex in the hotel to prove his claim. He said when he got to know about the activities of the two, he solicited the assistance of the other accused persons and entered the hotel room which was not locked and quickly took pictures of them ''in the act''. The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Alice Deku had told the court that Adofo-Addae arrived at Akim Oda on March 26 to cover a court case between Frempong and Doris. She said as it was late, Adofo-Addae decided to pass the night at a hotel where Doris visited him the following day with the intention of granting him interview on the case. Police Chief Inspector Alice Deku said the accused persons who are brothers and sisters later went to the hotel to assault the two.
