Husband-to-be Among Victims of Pres Motorcade Accident

The dream of a 23-year-old Accra-based petty trader, Miss Lydia Cujoe to secure a marriage partner was shattered at the weekend, when her would-be husband was killed in a motor accident involving the presidential motorcade on the Winneba-Accra road.

Lydia's mother, Madam Abiba Sumaila, also died in the accident, which has so far claimed four lives.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at her bedside at the Winneba Government Hospital on Monday, Lydia, who was also a victim of event, said they were on their way to Gomoa-Pomadze, near Winneba Junction, to introduce her prospective marriage partner to her father when the vehicle on which they were travelling crashed with the presidential motorcade.
According to Lydia, this was after she had introduced the late boyfriend and his entourage to her late mother, Abiba Sumaila, at Gomoa-Potsin.
She said after the introduction at Potsin, it was decided that the group should proceed on to Gomoa-Pomadze where the father lives, for the second introductory ceremony.
According to Lydia, the mother agreed to join the team to Pomadze so as to enable the family to decide finally on the date for the when the accident occurred.
Meanwhile Lydia and her friend, Auntie Akua Hawa who was also a victim if the accident, are responding well to treatment at the Winneba Government Hospital.
