Hunter does a "Cheney"

Drobo (B/A) Feb. 17 GNA - Police at Drobo in Jaman South District of Brong Ahafo are investigating how a hunter allegedly mistook the farm labourer of a colleague to be a bush pig and shot at him on a farm at Tine Sesre, near Dwenem in the district.

A magistrate court at Drobo has remanded the 53 year-old hunter, Isaac Kwaku Ameyaw, who is also a farmer, into prison custody in Sunyani to re-appear on Tuesday, February 21.

Giving the facts of the case at the court, presided by Mr. Samuel Kofi Solomon, the prosecutor, Police Detective Inspector Samuel K. Sarkwah said the accused, a resident

of Mpuasu, shared a farm boundary at Tine Sesre with the victim's boss, Opanin Kwasi Anane, who resides at Dwenem.

He said at about 0530 hours on February six this year Opanin Anane and his labourer left home to the farm to bring in some foodstuffs. The prosecutor said Ameyaw also went to his farm around the same time and passing by Opanin Anane's farm saw the labourer at a yam barn and claiming that he took him to be a bush pig opened fire on him. The labourer when hit began shouting in Twi "Waku me oo, Waku me oo, meaning :"He has killed me, He has killed me." The accused then threw down the gun and went to his aid.

Opanin Anane rushed there to see his labourer in a pool of blood and quickly went home for a vehicle whilst the accused carried the victim to the roadside.

The victim has been admitted at the regional hospital in Sunyani and is said to be responding to treatment.

The case was subsequently reported to the police and the accused was arrested.
