Scores of passengers and motorists have been left stranded at Beposo in the Western Region where a metal canopy under construction over a tollbooth has collapsed, blocking the Cape Coast –Takoradi highway.

The incident, which happened at about 2:00pm Tuesday, was caused by excavation works by the contractor working on the toll booth, correspondent for Takoradi-based Connect FM, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson reported.

Vehicles to and from Takoradi, Cape Coast and Accra among other areas are all locked up at the opposite ends of the booth except a few smaller saloon cars that have been able to maneuver through a temporary route in the bushes, he told 3news.com.

“For three hours now and no police or any emergency service person has been at the scene and the situation is getting out of hand” our correspondent reported.

The contractor is currently working to cut out the collapsed metal canopy to clear the area for free flow of traffic.
