Hundreds displaced in Savelugu Municipal as floods wreak havoc

Several houses have been submerged in water displacing over 200 people in the Savelugu Municipality following torrential rains that hit some parts of the Northern Region on Monday.

The affected areas include Chahi Yalpalsi, Yiworgu, Kanshegu and Nakpanzoo.

One person died and several injured through collapsed buildings since the rains began on Friday.

Several communities have been cut off from the Municipal capital, Savelugu, as the 5 hours rain destroyed bridges and roads.

Government properties including schools, health centers and others have also been hit by the rain.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu Hon. Hajia Ayishetu Seidu together with staff yesterday visited the affected communities within the municipality that got submerged in water.

Accessing the situation, Savelugu MCE assured the affected communities of government support through the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), saying the Assembly as matter of urgency will mobilize relief items to salvage their plight.

The MCE hinted savannanews24.com that, a lot of livelihoods have also been affected as farmlands and crops were washed away leaving the predominantly farming communities with no source of livelihood.

She therefore appealled to philanthropists and benevolence organisations to as a matter urgency come to the aid of the affected communities as the central government only cannot do it.
