Human resource development, critical to Ghana's growth- Prof Ellis

Kumasi, June 23, GNA - Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) would continue to create conditions that allow for affiliation with private universities, Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice Chancellor has said.

The university has a mandate to spearhead human resource development and technological advancement of the nation and it is committed towards these objectives through collaborations, shared researched work and ideas generation.

Professor Ellis said this at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the KNUST and Graduate School of Governance and Leadership in Kumasi, on Thursday.

The agreement would officially allow the School to be affiliated to KNUST, to bring to 15, the number of private institutions so far affiliated to KNUST.

Prof Ellis initialled the agreement on behalf of KNUST with the Reverend Dr Gideon Ti-Ti-Ofei, President of the School, appending his signature for his institution.

Under it, the School shall be required to notify KNUST on its admissions, as well as allow its officials to inspect academic work and supervise their programmes.

The Vice Chancellor said it was imperative that the School abided by the terms of the agreement for the mutual benefit of the two institutions.

Reverend Dr Ti-Ti-Ofei lauded the KNUST for its good track record in science and technology education, saying, they were happy to be affiliated to the university since it would give credibility to their programmes and faculty work.

He said their mission was to churn out a crop of leaders, who would effectively utilize state resources through good governance.
