Former Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has berated Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe over his comments regarding the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo on October 7, 2025, Nana Akomea said the attitude displayed by the Deputy Chief of Staff is unbecoming and counterproductive in the national fight against illegal mining.
His remarks follow a controversial statement made by Stan Dogbe in response to a social media post by Ken Ashigbey, the Convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining and a leading anti-galamsey campaigner.
Ashigbey had accused the current administration of failing to clamp down on illegal mining activities.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, October 5, Ashigbey, who was part of a group of civil society members that met with President John Dramani Mahama to discuss the illegal mining menace, wrote, "Around the Simpa township on the Tarkwa to Takoradi road, there is galamsey happening in clear sight. Is the MCE not aware?
"HE John Dramani Mahama, please, this MCE cannot be representing your interests. I can see it from the road today, Sunday, October 5, 2025. They are working and polluting the waters."
In response, Stan Dogbe commented, "If your government, in the eight years of your coloured fight, had demonstrated the political will and clear strategies deployed in the last nine months, I guess we would not be here.
More arrests expected as Lands Ministry intensifies galamsey fight
"Instead of gaining on negativity as a form of advocacy, you and your team, as advised by the president, should keep up the fight but do it constructively and stop hiding behind political bias to gain a voice."
Reacting to the exchange, Nana Akomea expressed disappointment in Dogbe's remarks.
"What pains me more is that Ken Ashigbey started the galamsey fight, and now the NDC is saying that he is an NPP member.
"The Deputy Chief of Staff is saying Ken is an NPP member for commenting on galamsey. With this kind of attitude, how can we fight galamsey?" he lamented.
