A woman identified as Wendy Sarpong, founder and President of the Beautiful Ladies Association, has shared how she moved from a village in the Ashanti Region to work at the Office of the President during John Agyekum Kufuor’s era.
Speaking on DL FM, Wendy explained that she comes from Gyamase in the Ashanti Region and had no academic qualifications.
She noted that about two decades ago, she left her children in the care of her mother and moved to Osu to stay with her sister.
She said she had asked her sister to take her to the Castle in Osu to meet the then-President, John Agyekum Kufuor, who was living there at the time, but her sister refused.
Wendy said one day she gathered courage and went to the Castle herself. When she reached the entrance, the security officers stopped her. She told them she had travelled from Gyamase, which was far, and insisted she needed to see the President because she wanted to work for him.

She later disclosed that she is related to Kwadwo Mpiani, who was the Chief of Staff at the time and also hailed from his hometown. They told her Mpiani often met people from their hometown on Fridays, so she was asked to return on one of those days.
According to Wendy, she was given an appointment to meet former President Kufuor on one Friday at 4:30 pm. When the day came, she did not even take her bath before heading out. Her sister urged her to dress properly, but she insisted on going as she was so that the President would understand the level of her struggle.
Founder and President of the Beautiful Ladies Association said that she met Kwadwo Mpiani at the Castle. After speaking with her and asking about her background, he realised they were indeed related and Mpiani then took her to see Kufuor, who was the President then.
Wendy said that when Kwadwo Mpiani introduced her to the then-President as his daughter, Kufuor on the spot offered her a job at the Castle as a cleaner.
“Kwadwo Mpiani took me inside and told Kufuor, ‘This is my daughter.’ He then asked when the cleaner usually arrives, and immediately, Kufuor employed me,” she said.
