Hooligan Hearts fans could pay more than GHC30,000 in damages

Seats at the Baba Yara stadium – fixed during the CAN 2008 – were sufferers of the wrath of the irate Hearts of Oak supporters who reacted angrily for what they described as “bias officiating” during Sunday’s defeat against Asante Kotoko.

Seth Hoffman’s team were beaten 2-0 following a first leg reverse with a similar scoreline.

The enraged supporters of the Phobian club damaged 275 stadium seats last Sunday at the Babayara according to the spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional branch of the National Sports Authority.

The suspected Hearts of Oak supporters were arrested and taken to the Kumasi central Police station following the incident but Sharon Mensah, who speaks for the NSA Ashanti regional branch, says the cost of a seat at the stadium is Ghc 110.

Sharon Mensah was speaking to Metro FM on Tuesday and said:

“The cost of one seat is 110 Ghana cedis and total of 275 seats were destroyed by the fans during the game. This is the number of destroyed seats last Sunday alone by the Hearts fans.” she said.

“Let me also add that the case is with the Police and we are looking forward to the outcome of their probe.” she added.

If this is proven to be true then the suspects are likely to cough up more 30 000 Ghana cedis in damages.
