Philadelphia, PA -- On Saturday; September 18th, 2010, the second annual Homowo Festival took
off in a grand style at IMHOTEP Charter High School. The CEO of the school
is; Mrs Christine Wiggins who is also Asofoanye (Chief Warrior in Ga State
of Accra, Ghana). The event was made possible by The GaDangme Foundation
of Pennsylvania in conjunction with Imhoptep.

Dignitaries in attendance were; Nene Djagbletey, Chief of Dodowa, Nii
Akapeh, Asofoatse of OSU in Accra and Rev Emmanuel Marbel from Committee of
Chieftancy Affairs in Accra, Ghana. The Chairman of Mayors Commission on
African and Carribean Affairs; Hon Stanley Straughter who is also a Chief in
Nigeria graced the occasion. Dr. Sam Quartey aka Nii Kwarte Quartey I,
Founder, The Director of GADANGME Foundation, Daniel Quartey, Joshua
Crabbe, the Secretary, Ms Melonie Quartey and Emmanuel A. Quarcoo, the
Linguist (Okyeame), members, students, teachers, admnistration and the
general public.

The Sprinkling of the Kpoikpoi took place along the block of the school and
was led by Nii Quartey I.

*The meaning of the sprinking of KPOKPOI*

The Sprinkling of KPOKPOI (Unleven Bread made from corn) is performed
by royals such as the King, Queen, Chiefs, and High Priests (wolomei) on the
Festival day. The food is prepared for all to eat and the rest sprinkled on
the ground for earthly creatures to partake in the abundance of food. It is
believed that the spirits of our ancestors are present all the time such as;
King Ayi Kushi, our first King and Joshua (aka)Jesus etc.

Libation is offered to GOD for whatever we do since we know they are in the
Spirit. We use either water which gives nourishment to our body and earth or
white alcohol which is also called spirit.

*About the Foundation*

The GADANGME Foundation of Pennsylvania comprise of people from Accra and
those who sympathizes with people from The Ga Dangme Region of GHANA.

The Organization was co-founded by Dr Samuel Nii Kwate Quartey, the Chairman
and Chief or Ga Mantse. He is also the President of the Board of Imhotep
Charter High School.
