The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says legalizing homosexuality in Ghana is not the party’s agenda according to its Director of Communications in the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Kwasi Kyei, who made the disclosure on Kumasi-based Abusua FM was in response to claims by some that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is likely to make homosexuality legal in Ghana.

“Let me make it clear that, there is no instance Nana Addo has urged homosexuals to come together and protest. Nana Addo did not say anything bad. There are laws in the country and none of them support that. Nana Addo confirmed that, legalizing homosexuality is not part of NPP’s agenda”. Mr Kyei stated

Dr Kwasi Kyei agreed that, most Ghanaians have always spoken against the act hence there is no way homosexuality will be made legal.

Most religious leaders have spoken against the devilish act and its consequences.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, in an interview with Aljazeera made a ‘controversial’ statement regarding homosexuality in his country.

During the interview, the journalist said, “I want to ask you, what is happening in your country, and homosexuality which I believe is illegal and punishable in your country. Why is homosexuality still illegal in your country?

Nana Addo in responding said, “This is social call for change if you like, I don’t believe Ghana so far, has no officially stronger coalition that has emerged which is saying change it”.

The journalist again asked if the President would get behind it but he answered, “I think it is something which is bound to happen”.

However, the NPP has assured Ghanaians making it legal is something which would never happen in the country in the immediate future.
