Citizens for Truth and Accountability, Ghana (CITAG), a youth-led group of citizens who are ready to ensure the right thing is done by citizenry and government and also fight for equal right and justice, have added their voice in support of condemnations against the acceptance and legalization of gay rights by President Nana Addo.

Below is the full statement :

It is embarrassing to note that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated unequivocally that Ghana was ready to legalize gaysm and lesbianism if likeminded groups can push, pressure and demand their 'animalistic rights of same sex marriage. In laying emphasis on a similar instance some time ago in London, it was obvious the first gentleman of the land was shamelessly and disappointingly campaigning and signaling a green light for Civil Society Organizations and gay groupings to start a radical action to drive home their demands. This is very pathetic, unpatriotic and most importantly alien to our Ghanaian norms and believes.

This emphatically brings to light and further firms up the position of the current government as far as legalizations gayism and lesbianism rights are concerned. It also reaffirms the long perception some people have held that the current President dines with the gay communities, who finance most of his political activities.

In sharp contrast to this unfortunate and disgusting position of the Nana Addo,Bawumia led Government, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under its various leadership in government since 1992, most recent of which is Late Professor Atta Mills and former President John Dramani Mahama have consistently stated the minds of Ghanaians by out rightly condemning such ill calls by some members of the international community. Similarly the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta did also exhibited maturity in responding to similar question thrown to him by this same foreign media not long ago.

It therefore came as a shock to hear our President deviating from the precedence that is seemingly the position of Ghana and Africa as a continent.

Ghana could be described as a secular country made up various religions, all of which abhors gay marriage. Akufo-Addo has obviously, selfishly and arrogantly betrayed the trust the entire citizenry entrusted in him less than a year ago by voting him to power.

The position of CITAG as echoed by most Ghanaians is that, Ghana cannot be mortgaged to Satan in the name of foreign aids. Ghanaians are already faced with too many challenges and so cannot accept this demonic offer with its attendance repercussions. The Ghanaian history has been written already and cannot find any space to insert this barbaric chapter.

We therefore wish to call on all well-mannered Ghanaians and Africans to condemn this catastrophic pronouncement made by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government. We also wish to call on religious leaders and all God fearing people to call the President to order and to also pray for him to avert possible possession by the devil.

In conclusion, CITAG as a matter of urgency is calling on the President to immediately apologize to Ghanaians and pray for forgiveness to avert the wrath of God on him. Ghana is a blessed nation which no one can curse, either by action or inaction.

Thank you.
