High Priest Calls For Preservation Of African Culture

Akatsi, (Volta Region), 15 Oct The high priest of an African Cult ''Afaga'', Tobokor Fiadzihu Nkegbe of Akatsi-Tatorme in the Volta Region, has called for the preservation of Africa's rich cultural heritage. Tobokor Nkegbe made the call at a ceremony at Akatsi at the weekend to mark the end of a three-day ''Fetatrortror'' festival of the Afaga Cult. He called for a halt to blind copying of foreign cultures, stressing that the African culture is unique and must not be neglected under any circumstances. The Tobokor said the youth must be educated to abandon the notion that by copying foreign fashions and cultures they are enlightened saying ''a foreign culture is no passport to civilization.'' Tobokor Nkegbe who has been with the Afaga cult since 1948, appealed to its followers to remain faithful to it and always stand by the truth. The three-day festival attracted members of the cult from neighbouring Togo and Benin.
