The High Council of Adentan Municipal Zongo and Tribal Chiefs, under the leadership of Alhaji Sarki Adamu Salifu Haruna, on Sunday September 7, 2025, installed Hajia Sarata Mairiga as the Magajiyan Magajiyoyi (Leader of Queen Mothers) of the High Council of Adentan Municipal Zongo and Tribal Queen Mothers.
The council also installed Hajia Ramatu Ali as Development Queen Mother, along with other members who will support the Magajiyan Magajiyoyi in administering the affairs of the association.
The newly installed Magajiya has been tasked to unite Queen Mothers and women across the Adentan Municipality to foster development, peace and unity.
Over the years, the High Council of Adentan Chiefs has played a critical role in promoting harmony and supporting development initiatives in the municipality, often using their influence and resources to meet the basic needs of the community.
As part of her responsibilities, Hajia Sarata Mairiga was charged to collaborate with women’s groups and organizations within the municipality to advance the progress and unity of the people.
The event also addressed the growing issue of illicit drug abuse within Zongo and Muslim communities nationwide.
Speaking to the media after her coronation, Hajia Sarata Mairiga called for cooperation and solidarity among women in Adentan to accelerate development.
She emphasised that her top priority would be the promotion of girl-child education.
“Our focus is to reduce school dropouts by supporting girls with the basic needs required for education. We will identify children, especially girls who have dropped out of school and assist them to return and build a better future for themselves and society,” she said.
The Public Relations Officer of the High Council, Nazif Abdul Rakeeb, explained that the Queen Mothers Association was formed last year to bring development to Zongo communities in Adentan, with particular focus on addressing the challenges faced by the girl child.
He stressed that the initiative was a collective decision by all tribal queens in Adentan, who recognized the need to come together to tackle educational and social issues affecting young girls.
On his part, the Chief of Moshie Yadiga of Adentan and Chairman General of the High Council, Sheikh Mohammed Sani Nakambo, said the Queen Mothers Council would complement the efforts of the chiefs in sustaining development, especially in addressing girl-child education.
He emphasized the importance of women in decision-making and community development, noting that their ideas and contributions were vital for achieving developmental goals.
Sheikh Nakambo also urged chiefs and queen mothers across the country to lead by example in their communities.
He cautioned against the involvement of some traditional leaders in illicit drug trade and called on kingmakers, elders, and community members to be mindful of the caliber of people they install as chiefs and queen mothers.
