GoldBod Jewellery, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, has come under intense scrutiny on social media following videos showing the company listed as a sponsor for a private women’s empowerment event.
The backlash began after a photo circulated online indicating that GoldBod Jewellery, as a government institution, sponsored the recently concluded Woman of Valor event in the UK on March 7, 2026.
Founded by renowned broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, the event brought together women from diverse backgrounds at the London Hilton on Park Lane to network and celebrate ahead of International Women’s Day.

However, social media reactions quickly turned critical, with many users questioning both GoldBod Jewellery and the Woman of Valor initiative.
Some argued that the event was not accessible to the general public, despite being promoted as an empowerment program. Others raised concerns about the appropriateness of GoldBod Jewellery’s sponsorship as a state-owned institution.
As the debate intensifies, GoldBod Jewellery, its parent company, and the Woman of Valor event continue to face widespread backlash across social media platforms.

What is "Women of Valour" about? I understand the English, but what is the aim of this program, and why is GoldBod sponsoring it? pic.twitter.com/hcJHjJIWMh

Gertrude Emefa Donkor should tell Ghanaians how much was spent on Women of Valour organised in the UK

GoldBod Jewellery isn’t some “hidden” brand people don’t get. It’s already the jewellery/value‑add arm of Ghana Gold Board with showrooms, e‑comms and diaspora promos. The issue isn’t awareness, it’s strategy: tell a consistent made‑in‑Ghana story, target the diaspora digitally… https://t.co/VtVpbUI88Z

What is this event really about? And why can't it be hosted consistently in Ghana? Do you need to hold expensive programs abroad, now sponsored by a State organization, to empower women, abroad? Obviously it'd cost way high in London or Paris than it will in Accra.

Broo.. I vex waaaa.. that thing is just for the rich people oo and you have a state organization sponsoring them whiles the poor study under trees.. Mahama should wake up oo..

I think people don’t realize “GoldBod Jewellery” is the consumer brand of Goldbod that turns the gold into luxury products. If I was the marketing manager I will gladly sponsor to be visible in a room full of aspirational GHANAIAN women in the diaspora.Or am I missing something?

Just so you know, there are many TEIN faithfuls on campuses who dedicate their lives to building and sustaining the network, working tirelessly to make it vibrant and attractive enough to bring more students into the NDC. Yet many of these same comrades are owing fees and being…

Some of us got beaten at polling stations, stood on our grounds for the right things to be done in order to bring the NDC to power. At the same Nana Aba & her colleagues were attacking the party & JM. Now I can’t afford 3 square meal a day yet Nana Aba got sponsored🤦♂️🤔 pic.twitter.com/f4C1phaoNJ

If sponsoring Women of Valor program could have provided Goldbod Jewelry with the marketing exposure it needs; appointing ambassadors instead serves little purpose. It appears to be an intentional waste of Ghana’s resources. 2028 is fast approaching.
