Every Ghanaian is expected to possess a National Identification Card, commonly known as the Ghana Card. However, not everyone has been able to acquire theirs for various reasons.

For those yet to get one, the National Identification Authority (NIA) allows individuals to register at any district office for a fee.

If you have lost your Ghana Card or your biometric details have faded, you can request a replacement.

According to the NIA, the replacement fee is GH¢125 at any district office, and GH¢420 at a premium center.

Before visiting either location, applicants must report the loss to a police station and obtain a police report, which must be submitted when applying for a replacement.

Individuals who wish to change their name on the Ghana Card will also pay a fee, GH¢60 at district offices and GH¢355 at premium centres.

The Ghana Card plays a crucial role in identity verification and forms a core part of Ghana’s digital infrastructure. Whether you’re registering for the first time or replacing a lost card, following the correct process ensures you remain connected to essential national services.
