The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has shut down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi after several mobile phones were confiscated from candidates.
Addressing journalists on Friday, September 5, 2025, John Kapi, confirmed that the decision was taken to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, a monitoring team deployed to various exam centres uncovered multiple cases of malpractice, leading to the closure.

“We noted with concern a number of cases of irregularity at examination centres across the country. As part of our commitment to upholding the integrity and credibility of our examinations, we have deployed staff, as well as specially trained personnel to monitor the centres. Our teams have unearthed a series of irregular activities at a number of the examination centres,” Kapi said.
He explained that candidates from the affected centre have been relocated to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi, where they will continue the examinations under stricter supervision.
The incident adds to a growing list of malpractice cases recorded during this year’s WASSCE, with at least 14 teachers, students, and invigilators arrested nationwide.
WAEC has assured the public that results from all implicated centres will undergo thorough scrutiny before they are released.
