Help provide accommodation to Police personnel - Ambrose Derry

Mr Ambrose Derry, Minister of Interior has called on community members to provide accommodation to the Police Service personnel posted to their areas.

This, he said, would go a long way to help in the effective discharge of their duties to provide maximum security in the communities, whiles combating crime.

“A sustainable provision of adequate security was a collective responsibility and it behooves on community members to do their part to contribute to the provision of office and residential accommodation to enable the police to function optimally”, he added.

Mr Derry made the appeal at the inauguration of a three-storey Police quarter, built by the Asante Akim-North District Assembly at Agogo.

He said one of the major challenges facing the police administration was residential and office accommodation for personnel in the various communities.

The Minister said the lack of accommodation was making it difficult for the Police administration to post personnel to especially, the newly developed and sprawling communities to increase police visibility and patrols.

Mr Derry stressed the need for community members to foster cordial police-community relationship by providing timely information to help fight criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr James Oppong Boanuh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, urged personnel of the Service to exhibit greater professionalism in the discharge of their duties to win the confidence and trust of the people.

He said they should respect the rights of people who come into conflict with the law, protect informants, ensure regularity and punctuality in their work while exhibiting high integrity in the discharge of their duties.

COP Boanuh condemned acts of violent demonstrations in some parts of the country and called on aggrieved persons to use peaceful and lawful means to seek redress for grievances.
