Help instil high sense of cleanliness in the youth - Traditional leaders

Two Traditional rulers in the Central Region have appealed to elderly people in towns and villages to help instil a high sense of cleanliness in the youth.

Gmoaba Nana Apata Kofi V, Quantoahene of the Gomoa Ajunako Traditional Area, and Nana Esi Gurabah II, Queen-mother of Gomoa Pomadze, made call when they addressed members of the newly-formed Gomoa-Pomadze Aged and Widows Association at the week-end on the aims and objectives of the association.

The two leaders reminded members of the association that the aged people in the society also have a major role to play in the socio-economic and cultural development of the country.

Nana Esi Gurabah said that the high sense of domestic and environmental hygiene the aged in the society cultivated from their ancestors in the olden days accounted for the continued effective maintenance of environmental cleanliness and domestic hygiene in many communities throughout the country during the olden days.

According to Nana Gurabah, the same spirit and even a much higher sense of cleanliness could be inculcated in the current generation if the government and the aged in the society could team up to designed a better and workable programme to secure a lasting solution to resolve the challenge.

She also advised parents, especially mothers, to refrain from encouraging their teenage girls to indulge in sexual practices to address economic challenges confronting their respective families.

Nana Gurabah said that instead, parents and guardians should rather encourage their female children to pursue vocational training courses to assist them gain life-long careers, stressing that, ‘’as followers of both Christ and Mohammed, parents and guardians in the country should be able to inculcate good moral values in the youth in spite of the mounting socio-economic challenges facing them’’.

On his part, Gomoaba Nana Apata Kofi who is also the Quantoahene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional set up, regretted that now that education and technology was advanced, the nation is rather engulfed with filth in many urban towns and villages.

Nana Apata Kofi who is also the Odikro of Gomoa-Pomadze and principal architect of the Gomoa Pomadze Aged and Widows Association said, the association was not only going to be used to seek for the socio-economic well-being of the members alone, but would also be used to educate people in the town, especially the youth, on sound environmental hygiene principles to enable them to live in a disease-free community.

The Qantoahene assured both middle-aged and younger generation in the area to use the association as their reliable source of vital historical information base to tap rich traditional and other important experiences whenever the need arises.

He charged residents in the town to ensure that the community is always tidy.
