Ghana's biggest derby involving Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko has set a new revenue record for the country after raking in GHC 726,380 following Sunday's match between Hearts and Kotoko.

The amount, which is about $130,000, becomes the highest amount any football match has earned in a match following the Ghana Premier League match in Accra.

"The amount from the gate proceeds in the Hearts of Oak clash with Asante Kotoko was GHC 726,380," National Sports Authority PRO Charles Amoah told Oyerepa FM.

The previous record was held by Kotoko last year when they played Cameroonian side Coton Sport Garoua in the CAF Confederation Cup in Kumasi and earned them GHC 639,000.

Prior to that record, the highest proceeds recorded over the years was in 2014 when Ghana spanked Egypt 6-1 in a World Cup qualifier in Kumasi that recorded a little over GHC 400,000.

So now the new record is held by Hearts versus Kotoko match on Sunday which ended 2-1 in favour of the visiting side.
