Hearts of Oak expresses shock at Mills' death

Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club have expressed shock and disbelief at the unexpected passing away of President John Evans Atta Mills, one-time Board Chairman of the Club.
A statement signed by Ashford Tettey Oku, General Manager of the Club copied to GNA Sports on Wednesday, said the former President, who passed away last Tuesday after taken ill served the Club in various capacities and capped it with Chairmanship of the Board.
“As the second Phobian personality to have risen to the highest office of the land after General Joseph Arthur Ankrah, Prof. or Uncle Fiifi as he was popularly known, served the Club in various capacities before attained the Chairmanship of the Board,” the statement said.
“He was a visionary who served the Club with humility, decency and integrity. We are particularly saddened because we will sorely miss the ‘behind-the-scene’ wise counseling of a true Phobian.”
The statement expressed condolences to his wife, Dr. Ernestina Naadu Mills and the entire family whilst praying for God’s guidance and strength at this difficult period.
“We further call on all Phobians to spare a moment of prayer for the departed soul of a national hero.”
The late President Mills also served in various capacities at the National Sports Council (now National Sports Authority) and the Ghana Olympic Committee.**
