Health workers tasked to work harder

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Feb. 19, GNA- Dr. Luiz Gohungo Amoussou, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Director of Health Services, tasked health workers in the country to work harder to ensure quality health delivery.

Dr. Amoussou said this during the dedication and inauguration of 3-storey guest house to house medical students from Europe and US on practical attachment at Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma in the Central Region.

Chiristoffel Blinden Missions in Germany, Holland and Spain funded the project that cost GHc1.2 million. The event coincided with the launch of the 16th World Day of the Sick by the Catholic Archdiocesan of Cape Coast, under the theme "Mary suffers with those in affliction." Dr. Amoussou urged hospital staff to let the celebration of the Day of the Sick rekindle them to be kind and helpful to patients all the time.

Dr. Thomas Tonfie Baah, in-Charge of the Eye Clinic in the hospital commended Dr. Mrs. Maria Hagan, immediate past President of the Eye Unit of Ghana Health Service whose instrumentality the Eye clinic was established at the hospital.

He also commended West Africa College of Surgeons, for given approval to the Eye Clinic to train Doctors in Cataract Surgery and the donors who contributed towards the construction of the Guest House. Dr. Baah said the Eye Clinic department of the Our Lady of Grace Hospital, last year 2007 operated 1650 people with cataract and provided them intra-ocular lenses.

Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Doomson, the District Chief Executive, commended the sponsors and management of the hospital for coming together to solve accommodation problems facing the heath facility. He said 55 health volunteers had been trained under the National Youth Employment Programme and posted to health facilities in the district to augment staff of health workers in the area. Mr Doomson advised the people to register as voters if the voters register is opened and to participate in the National Identification exercise if it takes off. He called for clean electioneering in the district as the country approached the 2008 Election. Very Reverend Monsignor James Robert Myers, Rev. Sister Luisa Ruperez, Sister in-charge of the hospital, and Nana Okriyaw Abonyi X Adontehen of Breman Asikuma Traditional Area, jointly inaugurated the guest house.
