Health screening reveals common ailments at Avevi

Arthritis, malaria, fresh water and skin infections and high blood pressure are the commonest diseases in Avevi in the Akatsi-North District.

Dr Alvin Wang, an Assistant Professor and Head of a nine-member team of Medical students from the Tempo University of the United States of America, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview. He said the disease situation in the community emerged following the screening of over 200 people by the team of medical students from the University.

Dr Wang said similar ailments exist in the USA but the difference was in the scale of care in the USA as compared with Ghana.

The team which is on a one month field tour of Ghana under their International Community Program would extend its screening exercise to Agormor and Ave-Dakpa.

The team will donate pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies to the Ave-Dakpa Health Centre. Disaster Volunteers of Ghana, a Non Governmental Organisation, is facilitating the exercise.

Mr James Gunu, Akatsi-North District Chief Executive, said the visit by the team was important as it provided access to health care for the people in the community.
