Health centre receives equipment from donors

Nkrankwanta (B/A) March 4, GNA - Nkrankwanta Local Council of Churches and the town's two Assembly Members-elect have jointly donated equipment worth GHC1,550.00 to the local health centre. The items included a fridge, office tables and chairs, mattresses and bed-sheets.

Presenting the items, Pastor George Tenakwa, chairman for the Council, re-stated the need for religious organisations to support evangelism with material gifts particularly to the poor and vulnerable in society.

He said the church would continue to donate to hospitals, schools and orphanages to make the desired impact on target beneficiaries. The two Assembly Members-elect, Mary Ameyaa and Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, appealed to the people to take advantage of interventions by government and non-governmental organisations in the health sector. The Service Medical Assistant in-charge of the Centre, Djato Farouk, urged the people to refrain from self-medication and the practice of attributing ailments to demonic spirits and other forms of superstition.

He thanked the donors and urged others to emulate them. A Midwife at the Centre, Rosina Atta, appealed to pregnant and lactating mothers to make maximum use of the health centre in order to avoid maternal and child mortality. The Queenmother of Nkrankwanta, Nana Bru Yaa Asemia, appealed to the government to upgrade the health centre to a hospital to enable it to cater for the area's increasing population.
