The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to immediately suspend its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, for two weeks, effective immediately, following the hospital’s controversial announcement on the suspension of emergency admissions.
In a statement dated June 5, 2026, the Minister said the CEO is being suspended “for causing the announcement of the suspension of admissions of emergency cases to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.”
According to the statement, the CEO appeared before the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, where he was found to have acted contrary to the clear directives of President John Dramani Mahama.
“The Chief Executive admitted before me on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, that he acted contrary to the clear directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana by that said announcement,” the statement said.
The Minister also expressed concern over a media interview granted by the hospital’s Head of Public Affairs Unit regarding emergency admissions.
He has therefore urged the Board of KATH to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident within two weeks.
“I am also respectfully requesting you to undertake a thorough investigation to establish on what authority he made those comments on Channel 1 Newsroom, and whether it was a management decision for him to grant the said interview,” the letter added.
