Hawkers take over KATH frontage, patients struggle to get access to facility

Hawker’s have taken over the entrance to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) making access to the facility difficult for regular users of the facility.

The phenomenon has rendered access to the facility almost impossible and this has been going on for years.

The pavement leading to the hospital has now become a mini market as a result of constructions going on in a number of markets in the metropolis by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Ultimatefmonline.com understands several complaints to the authorities at the hospital has fallen on death ears as some staff of the facility have found as easy way to shop there.

The hygiene of items sold there is questionable as the Hawkers operate just close to gutters that connect liquid waste from the hospital.

Good stuff sold there ranges from cassava, pepper, tomatoes, yam, cooking oil, hide (wale) etc.

Some of the Hawkers who Ultimatefmonline.com interacted with noted that, they have nowhere to go as the entrance of the hospital has become a place to do good business because of the huge number of attendants at the facility.

They noted that until most markets in the metropolis are completed and they are allocated space they will continue to do business there as they have families to take care of.

It is hoped that city authorities will take a look at this situation to curb any outbreak of strange diseases.
