Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has opened up about a near-fatal accident he survived last month while traveling on the Tumu Road.
Speaking on TV3 on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the minister expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their support and prayers following the incident.

“First of all, I think it's important that I thank the Ghanaian people for their solidarity, love and care that they demonstrated when I was involved in that tragic accident on the Tumu Road,” he said.
Haruna Iddrisu explained that he was on a trip to attend the 40th anniversary of the Tumu Colleges of Education and to support the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Jahan during their congregation and graduation ceremony when the incident occurred.
“Indeed, I was traveling to Tumu and then to Wa for the 40th anniversary of the Tumu Colleges of Education, and then to Jahan to support the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in getting them undertake their congregation and graduation of their students. And God did what pleases him, and I'm thankful for every breath and rebirth of my life,” he added.
On February 12, 2026, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, were involved in the accident.
In a statement issued the same day, Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the education minister, said the incident occurred while the two ministers were travelling to the Upper West Region for official engagements.
"The Ministers and their respective teams were en route to official engagements to commemorate the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education in the Upper West Region when the incident occurred. All members of the convoy are currently in stable condition and receiving the necessary medical attention," the statement noted.

He was discharged from the 37 Military Hospital on February 14, 2026, after receiving treatment and medical observation for injuries sustained in the accident.
