The 60th anniversary celebration of the congregation of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) has been launched in Accra.
The anniversary which is on the theme, "Sixty years of handmaids of the divine redeemer congregation our achievements, challenges, and the future prospects” was inaugurated with a Eucharistic celebration held yesterday at Mary Mother of good Counsel Catholic Church, Airport-West in honour of two of their members who chalked 25 years in religious life.
Speaking at the launch, the superior of the congregation, Rev. Sister Mary Matilda Sorkpor said by them being consecrated, the religious sisters are to strive to give themselves totally in love to God through humility and obedience and by associating themselves in the redemptive mission of Christ. She said members of the congregation are invited by the founder to imitate the life of Mary from all the stages of her life.
Sister Sorkpor further said the need for the Christian elevation of women is what led to the founding of the congregation of the handmaids of the divine redeemer (HDR). Activities for the celebrations Include Talks, Pilgrimages to Yamoussoukro and Nawule Grotto, workshop project management and outreach programmes among others. The celebration is expected to end on 2nd February 2017 with a thanksgiving mass at Agomanya.
