The Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed acting on strong advise of regional Security Council is said to have recommended to President Akufo Addo to call back the appointment of Hajia Amamata Sayibu as District Chief Executive for Tolon.

This follows a wave interminable angry protests by residents including traditional heads that law enforcers said threatened peace in the area.

The decision was taken at an emergency Security Council meeting followed by another with district stakeholders yesterday following rising tensions in the district capital that abruptly aborted a planned confirmation process.

Hon. Salifu and his team were preparing to move to the area to hold an event for members of the assembly to decide the fate of the nominee when intelligence came in that some youth firmly backed by the traditional authority had armed ready to cause chaos.

Unsuspecting members from far and interior electoral areas who were already reported at the assembly’s office were stunned in disbelief and fear and quickly dispersed back home.

Kasapa News sources say the youth who have been waging silent revolt against the nomination of Hajia Amama as their DCE wanted to use the confirmation process to show violent disapproval by attacking and assaulting the entourage who they claimed had heard was coming with armed military and police to impose the nominee.

The minister quickly cancelled the program and summoned Assembly members, local party executives, youth groups and representatives of the Regent to a meeting at the Regional Coordinating Council, seat of the regional minister.

Hon. Salifu Saeed after the meeting announced that the confirmation process of the nominee was indefinitely suspended without providing details.

His aide Shani Bawumia later confirmed to Kasapa News by telephone that the Monday process to confirm Hajia Amamata Sayibu has been held in abeyance “until further notice”. He did not also elaborate.

However, assembly member of Nayilifon Mohammed Chantiwuni who was in the meeting said the minister for the interest of peace in the region agreed to their demand for a replacement and pledged to increase efforts towards that.

According to Mohammed, names of earlier aspirants was resubmitted to the minister to be forwarded to Accra for presidential consideration, clearly indicating that appointment of Northern regional women organizer as DCE nominee for Tolon is in jeopardy.

It is still unclear whether the latest development has been communicated to the nominee who has maintained her composure and unwavering to all the rumpuses erupted following her appointment.

The Regent, Major Sulemana has on several moments openly protested against the nomination. Relationships between government and the Regent has been low since the contentious appointment.
