HIV/AIDS makes 126,000 children orphans

HIV/AIDS has made 126,000 children in the country orphans and are now being catered for by individuals, philanthropists and orphanages, throughout the country.

The number of people contracting the disease daily as at end of last year also increased from 200 to 230. The Eastern Regional AIDS Co-ordinator, Dr S. B. Ofori, said in an address read on his behalf at the inauguration of Coalition for HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention (CHAP), a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), at Nkawkaw on Monday.

He reminded the public that no cure has been found for the disease and called on individuals, religious bodies and organisations to supplement the government's efforts at controlling the spread of the pandemic.
