Group to educate people of Volta on their history

Ho, Jan. 8, GNA- Mr Charles Kudzordzi, Chairman of the Homeland Study Group Foundation, on Monday said it was starting a campaign to educate the people from the Volta Region on their roots. He said the two world wars affected the region, and there was therefore, the need for the people to be abreast with the historical antecedents of the region.

Mr Kudzordzi was speaking at a meeting attended by about 20 people from various parts of the region, in Ho.

Mr Victor Nyarko, Treasurer of the group, observed that many people, including scholars from the region, were ignorant about the historical circumstances of their birthplace.

He said it was important for the people to be made aware of the tracks of their forbearers as they wondered before settling in present day Ghana.

Mr Nyarko said similar attempts in the past were misconstrued as secessionist activities intended to whip up dissent. He said the people would be in a good position of making their minds on their roots once the group had educated them on their history.
