The members of the Greater Accra Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have elected four-member regional executives to manage the union’s affairs for the next four years.

The elections climaxed a day’s regional delegates’ conference of the Union, which ended at Big Ada in the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr Emmanuel Nii Ankrah and Mr Iddrisu Ashley Tetteh were re-elected as Regional Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively, while Mr Jacob Odai and Mr Emmanuel Kwakuvie as First and Second Trustees of the Union.

They were all returned unopposed representing 100 per cent of 491 votes cast by the delegates.

Mr Ankrah, the Chairman-elected in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said his priority would be on educating drivers to enable them to obey rules and regulations on the road.

He expressed gratitude to the Electoral Commission and the delegates for ensuring a peaceful election.

Mr Kwame Kumah, the National Chairman of the GPRTU said with the collaborative efforts of social partners the Union would ensure that the carnage on the road would be minimized if not curbed.

He advised commercial drivers to ensure that they renew their road worthy, insurance cover and other documents so as to avoid being arrested by the Police and also maintain their vehicles, which is a factor to road accidents.

Mr Kwame Amoah, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission supervised the elections while Mr George Ofori Davis, the Acting General Secretary of the GPRTU sworn in the new officers.
