Govt will continue with NDC initiated projects

Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (RTD), Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Friday said that the government's decision to continue with NDC initiated projects was to save the nation from financial waste.

Speaking at the dedication of an 85 million cedis block for the Pentecost Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Jinijini, near Berekum in Brong-Ahafo, the Deputy Minister expressed regret the practice where past governments abandoned projects started by their predecessors.

He cited the stoppage of work on the construction of 15 five-storey blocks started during the Acheampong regime in 1973 for police personnel in the Berekum District.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the NPP government would not practice "such negative politics", which he said rather set back the clock of national progress.

Capt. Effah-Darteh, who is also Member of Parliament for Berekum asked the people of Jinijini to assist in the government's crusade to halt financial malpractices.

He commended the church for putting up the school block and appealed to parents to make maximum use of it by sending their children to school.

Apostle Alfred Koduah, Sunyani head of the church, blamed indiscipline among the youth on lack of parental involvement in the moral training of their children.

Problems of armed robbery, rape, use of hard drugs, ritual murder, street children, all resulted from parental irresponsibility, he stressed.

Mr Patrick Obeng Asante, Headmaster, in a brief history said the school, started in March last year, had JSS one and two with 67 students of 34 boys and 33 girls.

Mr Kyere Yeboah, Berekum District Chief Executive (DCE), gave the assurance that the assembly would assist to rehabilitate the six-classroom block of the local Roman Catholic Primary School.

He said the assembly would also assist the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Primary School.

On bushfires, Mr Yeboah warned that offenders in Berekum would pay fines.

Mr Ernest Akubuor Debrah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister was among the dignitaries who attended the function.

An appeal for funds yielded seven million cedis.
