Govt to stop Ga state from Tax Collection

Greater Accra Regional minister Hon
Nii Armah Ashietey has issue a strong warning to the newly sworn Ga king from
imposing any levy to the general public without the involvement of the
metropolitan municipal and district Assemblies MMDAs.
According to a press release to the media , the regional minister who chairs
the regional security council in the greater Accra region made the statement
that , the power and legal authority to impose and levy, dues and tolls on the
operations of any vehicle or transport operators are prescribed by law
specifically section 94 of the local government Act 1993 Act 462 and that
authority is vested in the metropolitan, minicipal and district assemblies .
Hon . ASHIETEY, stated clearly that, it is unlawful for anybody to impose any
such levies on the operations of transport operators without the due regard to
the law.
He further added that the regional security council of Accra wishes to advice
any body from the region who have any issue relating to imposition of levies
to seek proper legal advice and abide by the laws governing such matters .
It will be recalled that on 12 june following the installation of the new Ga
Mantse in Accra the Asere Dzaasetse, a king maker in the Ga state issue a
statement on the willingness of the new administration of the traditional
authority to collect levies and tolls at lorry parks in the greater Accra
