Govt sets up committee on Expo2003 visa deal

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - A three-member special committee of enquiry has been appointed by the Head of the Civil Service to investigate allegations of misconduct against Miss Lily Mensah, an Information Officer at the Information Service Department (ISD).

The appointment of the committee followed a Joy FM news report, which alleged that Miss Mensah was involved in visa deals prior to the just ended Ghana EXPO 2003 in London.

A statement from the ISD said the committee would conduct investigations into the alleged misconduct and make appropriate recommendations.
It would also inquire into any other matters, which appear to the Committee to relate to the forgoing and make recommendations on the measure to be put in place to arrest the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Mr W. K. Kermevor, Director of Human Resource Management at the Office of Head of Civil Service is chairman of the committee with Mrs Millicent Tandoh State Attorney at the
Attorney General Department and Mr Mark Wonyongo, Deputy Director, Administration and Finance of ISD as Member/Secretary. The Committee has four weeks to submit its report to the Head of Civil Service.
Inaugurating the Committee on Tuesday, the Head of Civil Service, Mr Alex Glover-Quartey urged the members to be fair to ensure justice to both Miss Mensah and the Civil Service.
Mr Kermevor said the Committee would work hard to beat the deadline and get to the root of the matter adding that it would be guided by fairness and firmness.
The Committee would hold its sittings in Room 39 at the Information Services Department and persons wishing to give evidence may contact Mr Woyongo.
