Govt is committed to solve youth unemployment

Ho, May 16, GNA - Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on Monday reiterated the government's commitment to solve the problem of youth unemployment in the country.

Mr Nayan said this at the opening of a two-day orientation workshop on Youth Employment Programme (YEP) in Ho for Municipal, District Chief executives, District Finance Officers, District Employment Coordinators and Liaison Officers.

He stated that employment creation for the youth was part of the larger government's focus of manpower development. Mr Nayan said "by developing manpower, government will be investing in people who will in turn be contributing effectively towards the socio-economic development of the country."

He said as a basic way of preparing the youth for the future the government had set aside one trillion cedis for the creation of employment for the unemployed youth.

Mrs Frema Osei Opare, the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, said the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) was being rolled out with clear guidelines and a target of 170,000 jobs to be created for the first year.
