Govt gives laptops to schools

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and former Ghana’s Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Lee Ocran, has, on behalf of the government, presented 20 laptops to two schools in the Jomoro District.

The beneficiary schools are Nawulley Junction Catholic JHS, and Ehoaka District Assembly JHS, both near Half Assini.

Mr Ocran who was accompanied by the Jomoro District Director of Education, Mr Peter Blay Ackah Quayson, and some officials from the district education directorate, said the gesture was to help improve education in the area.

He said it was the intention of the government to ensure that children in rural areas got access to computer education.

Mr Ocran, a former Minister for Education, said in this computer world, children in the rural areas must be given good foundation in ICT at the basic level, for them to build on it as they climbed the education ladder.

Mr Ocran, a son of the Nawulley, had earlier donated one computer to the school.

He appealed to the school authorities to put the laptops at the disposal of the pupils, and advised them to take proper care of the items to prolong their life span.

Mr Quayson who received the items on behalf of the District Education Directorate and the School, thanked the Government for the gesture.

He advised the pupils to take ICT training seriously, because in the near future, it would be very difficult for non computer-literate students, to obtain job.

The District Chief Executive of Jomoro, Mr Sylvester Nuomah Daddieh, hoped the items would help update the children scientifically in this era of the world becoming a global village.
