Govt accuses NDC of pitching Ghana against foreign powers

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of pitching the country against foreign powers amidst the Power Distribution Services (PDS) saga.

According to him, the opposition NDC in particular has not only failed at its attempts but has sought to make political capital out of the saga with hopes that it will inure their parochial benefit.

“They have consistently made efforts to pitch Ghana against foreign powers. In FT transactions, they sought to report the sovereign state to the United States government with hopes of investigations and sanctions”

The Information Minister speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday in Accra maintained that the NDC failed in the Sinohydro transactions when they sought to get the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to scuttle the transactions.

“They also sought the US government to take over the inquiry and literally push Ghana on where to go. Initially the NDC claimed that this was because CP was changed to CS and that is why due diligence wasn’t properly done and this have over time proven to be mere propaganda and untruths. It will not wash,” he expressed.

Oppong Nkrumah however said the NDC’s distortions that the Akufo-Addo led government conspired to bend the rules for the PDS deal, have clearly been exposed by the record of events.

“While the NDC seeks to always tag the transactions as a corrupt act, they have never been able to adduce one piece of cogent evidence to back to the claim. The evidence rather is that the Akufo-Addo led administration is the one which through due diligence discovered the suspected breach and has proceeded to act to preserve national assets,” he concluded.

The Information Minister gave the assurance that the government of Ghana and United States will continue to work together on other development cooperation projects.
