Government urged to make teaching attractive

Kumasi, July 4, GNA - An education officer has appealed to the government to make teaching more attractive to draw people with diverse academic background into the profession. Mr Samuel Mensah, officer in-charge of the Asokwa Sub-Metro Education Directorate, was speaking at the conference of teachers in the Asokwa circuit in Kumasi. He said such a move would help fill vacant positions in the teaching field throughout the country.

Mr Mensah said the unattractiveness of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) pension scheme; inadequate health care allowances and the deplorable nature of most education infrastructure had made the teaching profession unattractive to many people. He called for good conditions of service for teachers to enable them give out of their best. Mr Mensah also appealed to religious bodies, parents and guardians to join the crusade to instil discipline into pupils.
