Government urged to improve education in the North

Kumasi, May 8, GNA- The Northern Students' Union has called on government to initiate pragmatic measures to improve education in the North.

It said problems of education in the northern part of the country are "grave" and therefore needed concerted and comprehensive efforts to address them. This was contained in a statement issued to the press in Kumasi on Friday.

The union commended the government and the management of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for introducing a scholarship programme for 40 deprived districts in the country.

It said, "we are specifically touched by the inclusion of almost all the districts in the North for the first time" and said it was a step in a right direction.

The statement called on the GETFund secretariat to sustain the programme to achieve the desired results.
