Government to improve conditions of service for doctors

Accra, March 9, GNA - The Minister for Health, Dr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey on Monday assured doctors and other health workers that government would do everything possible to improve their conditions of service. Dr Yankey said government would also work to improve infrastructure and procure other medical facilities needed at the hospitals to make the working environment of the personnel conducive.

The Minister made this known when some members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) led by its President, Mr Emmanuel Adom Wilful called on him at his office in Accra to discuss how he could contribute to the welfare of doctors in the country. The Minister said government would adopt a proactive strategy by responding quickly and adequately to the demands of health workers to ensure that the country did not experience industrial actions which could lead to loss of precious lives.

Dr Yankey said Ghana was blessed with some of the best brains in the medical field in the world and every effort would be made based on the strength of the country's economy to retain them. He expressed the hope to work closely with the GMA to ensure that Ghanaians received efficient and adequate health care treatment. Mr Wilful congratulated the Minister for his appointment and assured him of the GMA's commitment to cooperate with him to deliver quality health care to Ghanaians.
