Government to eradicate poverty in the country

Cape Coast (C/R), Oct. 13, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Asamoah Boateng, on Saturday reiterated the determination of government to eradicate poverty in the country. He explained that it was in this regard that holistic policies like the President's Special Initiatives (PSI), National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), among other programmes had been introduced to accelerate poverty eradication.

The Deputy Minister said this at Cape Coast at a Press Soiree he organised for the Central Region Press Corps to mark the end of his week-long familiarisation tour of the region.

Mr Boateng said the PSI would create the needed job opportunities, while the NHIS would also make the people healthy to enable them to work harder and break the vicious cycle of poverty.

He urged the people to embrace the PSI and patronise the NHIS. They should also educate their children.

Mr Boateng said the Information Service Department would soon take delivery of 80 vans from the Spanish government as part of government's efforts to effectively disseminate information in the districts. The Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze, commended the Minister for visiting all the twelve districts of the region to know their problems and needs.

Mr Edumadze also commended the press in the region for their good work and urged them to continue to be circumspect in their reportage to avoid disturbing the peace of the people.
