As part of government efforts to halt the increasing menace of children on the streets in the country, most especially in the capital, Accra, plans are underway to construct shelters to house such persons.

This was revealed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia when he joined some street children to mark the St. Valentine’s Day Thursday February 14.

He said that government has been in talks with Rev, Father Cambell about finding relief measures for the disadvantaged in the society; this includes building shelters and finding land to build among other things, soup kitchen, in order to help street children get accommodation.

‘’I have talked to the mayor of Accra and we are making very good progress on that and I believe that we are going to the get the lands to build the shelters not only for the street children but also for the ‘kayayes’ as well’’

The Vice President lauded the initiative of the Christ the King Catholic Church Parish Priest, Rev. Father Andrew Cambell. He was impressed about the fact that he took up the task of doing something only a few persons in our society will think of doing.

‘’The most difficult thing is to take care of other people, that one is not easy and that is why I want to thank Father Cambell and all those who have made this soup kitchen, we are talking of breakfast every day and this means so many people have to sacrifice to make that possible.’’ He explained.

The Vice President ended by advising the children to stay away from deviance and drugs. He also encouraged them to keep hope alive, considering the Akufo-Addo government’s efforts to through an inclusive government, solve pertinent issues of this nature in society.
