A three-hour meeting called by government in an attempt to get striking teachers of colleges of education to resume work has ended inconclusively.

Though government, represented by the Ministry of Finance, urged the teachers who have since November 2, 2017 been on strike, to return to the classrooms as processes are underway to pay them their salary arrears and resolve other matters, but the teachers turned down the request.

Officials of the Finance Ministry had explained to the teachers the steps government had taken in a bid to resolve the impasse which bothers on nine-month salary arrears, allowances, market premium and conditions of service.

According to the officials of the Ministry, the Controller had promised to give them the required data on the teachers to enable them take the next line of action at the Audit service.
